What is an Air Force Form 63 ?
In the Air Force, a form called an AirForm 63 is required when an aircrew member is sent overseas to fulfill their duty commitment. It is required in certain situations and is used for special cases, such as separation from service for misconduct or retirement for interests of national security. In some instances, the form can also be used for PCS, a permanent change of duty station without allowances or entitlements.
A member must complete the form before committing to active duty. This document is required when an individual is promoted to E-7, E-8, or E-9, and the rated specialty starts with the award of wings or an aeronautical rating. The AF Form 63 should be completed before the individual is eligible to receive his or her commissioning contract. What is the Purpose of AF Form 63 ?
This document is used for various purposes. For example, it is used to document a person’s active duty service commitment. It is countersigned by a military personnel flight official on 16 December 1996. Occasionally, it is used to indicate a decline in a PCS, TDY, or training assignment. Airmen must complete a certain number of years of active duty service before they are eligible for retirement. Officers who are under active duty service commitment may not retire until the next September.
The AF Form 63 must be completed by the unit commander if a member will be eligible for ADSC before the date of his or her retirement. If the date of the ADSC is before 7 Jun 16, it must be completed by all individuals attending training. They must also have sufficient retainability to complete the ADSC. If a service member is unable to complete an AF Form 63, then the responsible FSS will notify the HQ AFPC/DPTO.
