What is Air Force Form 1185? is a medical evaluation for a service member who is not fit for duty because of a medical condition. It was originally called the Commander’s Letter, and it was used to make decisions about whether or not a member should be returned to duty or go through the full MEB process. Once the decision is made, a member may not be allowed to PCS, TDY, or deploy until their case is fully reviewed by the AFPC.
